ARLINGTON, VA. — Nestle USA said it plans to invest $675 million to build a new 630,000-square-foot beverage plant in Glendale, Ariz. The new facility will make creamers for the Coffee mate, Coffee mate natural bliss and Starbucks brands.
According to Nestle the new plant will be the company’s “most technologically advanced factory and distribution center, utilizing innovative digital tools and offering flexibility to meet the changes in consumer demand.” The facility’s features will include a water recycling process to reduce water usage, zero waste to landfill and fully recyclable product packaging made from food-safe recycled plastic. Nestle also intends to strive for 100% renewable energy at the plant by 2025.
The new plant is expected to open in 2024 and create 350 new jobs in the Glendale region, which the company said was chosen because of its close proximity to customers and consumers in the western US, reducing transport timelines and emissions.
“Beverages play an increasingly important role in the lives of consumers, a trend that’s been accelerated by the pandemic and is expected to continue to grow,” said Daniel Jhung, president of beverage at Nestle USA. “This investment illustrates our continued commitment to leading and growing categories where we play, providing consumers with a variety of high-quality, innovative products to meet their needs.”
Over the past two years, Nestle said it has invested approximately $3 billion in the United States to enhance its manufacturing footprint and in-house capabilities. Projects have included new facilities and expansions as well as operational changes that help meet its sustainability targets.
Nestle currently operates 14 food and beverage plants across the United States.
